Walt Disney: a man’s man?
Most of us grew up watching DISNEY films and cartoons and they were the greatest. But there was one thing I never really noticed until now: not one of the Disney characters was ever MARRIED.
Go ahead, start thinking about the different characters:
- Mickey Mouse = single (although Disney claims that he and Minnie are married in “real” life)
- Donald Duck = single
- Goofy = of course single, in fact does he even have a girlfriend?
- Scrooge McDuck (an animated representation of Disney himself) = RICH, old, and single
The list goes on and on. Now I know you’re saying, “but most of them had girlfriends” and yes you are correct - but did they ever take that relationship to the next level? It has become obvious that Disney (through his animations) was more concerned with keeping up appearances than being true to himself: Disney obviously was GAY, thus so are his characters.
Now I know Walt Disney was married in real life, but that was just a front and an accepted way (in those days) of getting children which he desperately wanted. This isn’t much of a shock really, I mean how many grown straight men do you know that draw pictures of fairies?

bullcrap. I live life as a gay man, and I write stories. Very few of them contain fairies, many contain (both happily and unhappily) married men. Does that make me a closet straight guy?

Hey Alexander, You could be a closet straight, but I think more accurately it means that you are comfortable with your lifestyle - Walt wasn’t, he was hiding.

What about Disney’s ‘Robin Hood’? I recall Robin Hood and Maid Marian getting married at the end of that one.

Good point Hellman! And that actually WAS an animated film. I think the difference here is that Walt didn’t CREATE that story or the characters. Whereas with Mickey and the rest, he personally created them.
