The fantastic forgery
So we’ve all heard the story of the US DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. It was July 4th, and congress united and signed the declaration starting with John Hancock. Well there’s more to this story, including an entirely different date when the document was signed and at least two forgeries.
First off, the ACTUAL date of the signing: On July 19, 1776 congress ordered a carefully handwritten copy to be produced and it was then delivered and SIGNED on AUGUST 2, 1776. However, not everyone was available to sign it that day. Due to this conflict of schedules, these two signatures were forged: OLIVER WOLCOTT and THOMAS McKEAN. Both signatures more than likely signed by their personal aides.
All of this aided in convincing the American people that congress was united in their rebellion. Very similar in effect to the rock anthem WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT by Twisted Sister.
Think about it…
